In the Footsteps of Saint Pio ♿ Accessible
Padre Pio called it "my creation": Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza ("Home for the Relief of Suffering"), opened on 5 May 1956, was born to give the sick of the Gargano excellent care, and is today one of Italy's leading research hospitals.
For the pilgrim it is a meaningful stop: seeing the concrete work born of the saint's charity helps to understand his story. Only the outside can be visited: it is a fully working hospital, with its own emergency room.
